WHAT KIND OF A WORLD DO WE LIVE IN?!
Like many "normal" people, I had no religious or spiritual upbringing whatsoever so in 1997 I became a little depressed about certain aspects of my life. I've always felt different from everyone so I really, really, really wanted to understand myself better and know the meaning and purpose of life, not only for myself but for everyone!! So, with heartfelt sincerity I prayed (even though I didn't know who or what I was praying to!) for answers to these questions: Why are we all here? What is the purpose of life? What is my purpose in life? What is everyone else's purpose in life? According to the universal law, "As you seek, you attract and are attracted to that which will fulfill your search" I began to attract to myself mind-boggling answers to these questions.
I am a certified personal fitness trainer through ACE so in February, 1998 I began personal training a new client who was into astrology. I'll protect her real name by calling her Roxanne. Now, I didn't believe in astrology at all and frankly I thought Roxanne was "off her rocker", "out there", "cuckoo!!" I have a very logical, analytical, prove-it-to-me brain (Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering) and no one in my family is in the least bit religious or spiritually inclined. Roxanne convinced me to be open-minded enough to get a birth chart report based on my date, exact time and place of birth. She told me there is much more to astrology than just your "sign." So, I got and read a report and was stunned to find that about 80% of what it said was accurate about my personality! I thought to myself, "How could that possibly be true? How can the planets and stars have any affect on my personality?" It seemed preposterous but I was curious enough now to find an astrologer who might be able to logically explain this to me. Well, the astrologer did explain it to me and she was about 90% accurate in describing my personality! The astrologer told me about a San Diego Astrological Society (SDAS) meeting that was being held on Friday so I decided to go. A prominent Western astrologer at the meeting named Terry Lamb just happened to be starting a new beginner's astrology class the next week and something inside of me told me to go, so I did. I studied with Terry for about two and a half years and I am deeply grateful for her knowledge, wisdom and passion for both astrology and teaching.
Western astrology lead me into the world of metaphysics (the study of the causes and nature of things), psychology, philosophy and spirituality. Western astrology is a most amazing system for understanding how, why and when events happen in our lives. It is also an amazing system for understanding our personality on a deeper level. But, it didn't explain everything. For example, according to astrology, twins born at the exact same time would have darn near the exact same astrology chart and hence personality. Although twins do have very similar personalities they are not the same!! I wanted to know what made them different so I went looking for more answers. When someone introduced me to numerology and said that my name at birth had a lot to do with who I was and the events that would happen in my life I laughed so hard because my name was chosen at random by my parents not me -- so I thought! I was intrigued by the idea however because, if it was true, it would help explain why twins are different since they do have different names (usually). So, I began studying numerology as well as astrology. After studying and applying the principles of numerology on hundreds of names I realized that it was true, our names do effect our personalities and destinies!! What kind of a world do we live in was a thought that came to my mind often.
Even with all of this amazing knowledge about astrology and numerology I still found myself getting depressed sometimes and not knowing why. I wanted to know why so I went to a metaphysical bookstore one day and asked if they would tell me every system they knew of that could help explain our personalities. They told me that the Myers-Briggs typology system was widely used in corporations. They also told me about several other systems: face reading, palmistry, graphology, the human design system, the Enneagram and the playing card system. So I grabbed a few books of each and went home to study. And study I did!! When I got to the Enneagram books and determined that I was a Four on the Enneagram I immediately began to cry because IT explained why I felt depressed sometimes! It explained my distorted world view and core motivations. It was at that point that I knew I had to learn this system and help other people understand how their view of the world was being distorted by their personality! I began my training to become a certified Enneagram teacher in August, 2001 and in January, 2003 I became certified as an Enneagram teacher by Helen Palmer and David Daniels. I previously saw value in the Myers-Briggs system also and got certified as a Myers-Briggs consultant in February, 2000 by CAPT. In August, 2002 I became certified as a Western astrologer by AFA. I am currently learning the most amazing system of all, Vedic astrology, through the American College of Vedic Astrology and my awesome personal teacher, Joni Patry.
Since the winter of 1997 my life has been totally transformed and it is my sincerest desire now to help other people benefit from my knowledge!
