Directions: If you are curious what the Dosha Type system is about then go to the Self-Awareness Self-Assessments Overview. The following self-assessment will help you to determine your predominant dosha type or type combination. There are three sections with 20 statements per section. Please read each statement and click in the circle (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) that you feel most applies to you. Answer according to how you have been most of your life, not just now.
Note: The total score recalculates after each question.
0 = Doesn't apply to me
1 - 4 = Sometimes or somewhat applies to me
5 = Applies to me all of the time

You now have three separate scores, one for each section (each dosha type). The section with the highest score is most likely your predominant dosha type. If either of the other two scores is at least 75% of your highest score then you are probably a two-dosha type. See "There are 6 Two-Dosha Types:" below. If all three of your scores are fairly even (within 90% of each other) you may be a rare three-dosha type. See "There is 1 Three-Dosha Type:" below.
There are only 3 doshas but each is expressed within a person in varying degrees. Most everyone has a completely unique combination of these doshas influencing their mind and body but for simplicity 10 distinct dosha types and type combinations are spoken of in Ayurveda. If your second highest score is less than 75% of your highest score then you are most likely a single-dosha type. This means that you will display the qualities of your leading dosha (highest score) prominently with your next highest dosha showing some influence but to a much lesser degree. For example, let's say your score was Vata - 90, Pitta - 60, Kapha - 55. Since 90 x .75 = 67.5, this person is a Vata type with some, but much less, of each of Pitta and Kapha. |

If two scores are within 75% of each other and higher than the third score then you are most likely a two-dosha type. This means that you will display the qualities of your two leading doshas, either concurrently or in alternation. The higher scoring dosha will probably be your dominant dosha but both will be influential for you. Most people are two-dosha types. For example, let's say your score was Vata - 70, Pitta - 88, Kapha - 45. The highest score is 88. 88 x .75 = 66, this person is a Pitta-Vata type (Vata because it is the second highest score, 70, which is greater than 75% of 88 = 66). |

If all three of your scores are fairly close (within 90% of each other), then you are most likely a three-dosha type. This is quite rare. Check your answers over on the self-assessment and see if you really feel as if you are an equal composite of all three dosha types (you may change your mind as you learn more about each of the types). You may want to read the description for each of the two-dosha types and see if one of those sounds more like you. Here is an example of a three dosha type with scores within 90% of each other: Vata - 83, Pitta - 89, Kapha - 81. |
